Ready in three minutes

The first setup reflects the philosophy of the whole project: absolute simplicity. When you turn the clock on for the first time (or if you change router), it temporarily becomes a protected Wi-Fi hotspot called DOTCLOCK-XXXXX. Just connect with your phone or computer by entering the password engraved directly on the back of the wood. Once connected, open the browser at http://192.168.4.1: a clean screen guides you through scanning and choosing your home Wi-Fi network.

A few seconds after you enter the password, the clock connects to the cloud, starts showing weather, news and the exact time, and switches off the hotspot.

And if you mistype the Wi-Fi password? The clock figures it out on its own and reactivates the hotspot to let you try again, without wasting your time.

  • Connect to the clock

    If it can't find a Wi-Fi network, the clock becomes a hotspot named DOTCLOCK-XXXXX (based on its MAC address). Select it from your smartphone or PC and enter the security password engraved on the back of the shell.

  • Open the browser

    Open any web page and type the address http://192.168.4.1. You'll find yourself straight inside the device's internal configuration interface.

  • Choose your network

    Start the scan of available Wi-Fi networks, select your home network and enter your password.

Setup Troubleshooting

It won't join my Wi-Fi.
DotClock uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Make sure you're not on a 5 GHz-only network, and that the password has no leading or trailing spaces. The setup portal re-opens automatically if a join fails.
The panel is too bright at night.
The ambient sensor dims it automatically, but you can set a hard 'off when dark' rule in the web config, or pin a maximum night brightness.
How do I update the firmware?
Updates are over-the-air and opt-in. When one is available the web config shows a one-tap 'Update' button; nothing installs without your say-so.
