Owner And Licensor
The DotClock firmware, embedded software, update packages, configuration tools, display logic, graphics, fonts where owned by DotClock, cloud integration code, and related documentation are owned by Andrea Teofilo, operating as DotClock, or are used under third-party licences.
Buying a DotClock transfers ownership of the physical hardware to you. It does not transfer ownership of the firmware, source code, software design, trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property.
Licence Grant
Subject to these terms, Andrea Teofilo grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and run the DotClock firmware only on DotClock hardware that you own or are authorised to manage.
This licence is for normal personal or internal use of the device, including setup, display configuration, firmware updates, and optional DotClock cloud, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home integrations where available.
What You May Do
- Use the firmware on your own DotClock device.
- Install official firmware updates provided by DotClock.
- Configure, repair, or tinker with your own device for personal use, at your own risk.
- Make a backup copy of firmware files solely for restoring your own DotClock device, where technically possible and lawful.
What You May Not Do
- Sell, sublicense, rent, lease, redistribute, publish, or commercially repackage the firmware or update files.
- Copy the firmware onto non-DotClock hardware or use it to build a competing product or hosted service.
- Remove, hide, or alter copyright, licence, attribution, security, or authenticity notices.
- Bypass licence checks, device assignment, cloud access controls, firmware-signing checks, account linking, or security restrictions.
- Use the firmware to access devices, MQTT topics, APIs, accounts, cloud services, or smart-home integrations that are not yours.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the firmware except where applicable law gives you a non-waivable right to do so.
Open Source And Third-Party Components
DotClock firmware may include open-source or third-party components. Those components remain governed by their own licences. This Firmware Licence does not reduce rights you already have under applicable open-source licences.
Where a third-party licence requires notices, source availability, or different terms for that component, those third-party terms apply to that component only.
Updates And Cloud Features
Official firmware updates may add, remove, change, or fix features. Some features depend on DotClock servers, third-party data providers, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, browser APIs, or platform certification, and may change or stop working independently of the firmware.
DotClock may refuse cloud access, updates, or smart-home integration for modified firmware, counterfeit devices, unsafe builds, compromised accounts, or use that violates the Acceptable Use Policy.
Modified Firmware
You may experiment with your own device for personal learning, but modified firmware is not official DotClock firmware. Modified firmware may break the device, reduce security, expose data, void warranty on affected parts, or make cloud and smart-home features unavailable.
Do not distribute modified DotClock firmware, derivative firmware, extracted firmware images, or compatible clones without written permission from Andrea Teofilo, unless a specific third-party open-source licence independently permits the relevant component.
Responsible Use
DotClock is an artisanal maker product and its firmware is intended for ordinary display, configuration, and smart-home convenience features. You are responsible for how you use, install, configure, modify, automate, and rely on the firmware after delivery.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Andrea Teofilo and DotClock are not responsible for damage, loss, service interruption, data exposure, unsafe behaviour, third-party platform issues, or device failure caused by misuse, unsupported modifications, unofficial firmware, unsafe automation, unsuitable power or mounting, reliance on informational data for critical decisions, or use outside the documentation and this licence.
No Transfer Of Ownership
All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by Andrea Teofilo. No sale, download, update, repair, replacement, refund, warranty claim, account creation, smart-home linking, or support interaction transfers ownership of the firmware or related intellectual property to you.
Warranty And Liability
Firmware is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the maximum extent permitted by law. This does not limit your statutory consumer rights or the separate hardware warranty described in the Warranty and Terms of Sale.
DotClock is not responsible for damage, data loss, service loss, or warranty issues caused by unofficial firmware, unauthorised modifications, unsupported flashing tools, or use outside this licence.
Termination
This licence ends automatically if you materially breach it. When it ends, you must stop using and delete any unauthorised copies of the firmware. Any rights that by their nature should continue, including ownership, restrictions, disclaimers, and liability limits, continue after termination.
